| subject: | 1/8 - Reminescences |
Hi, 1/8
Like many of us lately i had the "privilege" to read the statements
about what was lost or what the hobby became, few "subtle" comments also
refered to the way "other" guys behave, etc... I had to hold my breath,
hoping that the ~FTP~ topic might lead to a satisfying outcome while the
angry lamers seize that opportunity to put their values to work and take
us to a new era. Oh well, i'm afraid it turns out this is just business
as usual, as trivial as it may sound remaining "on-topic" is easy enough
these days so i suppose i can simply agree the DOS-INet BBSers did loose
something, indeed! 8-b, I'll "contribute" in my own way to the current
thread - which appears to be the leading one right now. ;-> I wouldn't
expect anybody to be aware of what has been lost if he didn't experience
what our echo used to be like. :( Once we all forgot one might as well
argue it's useless and off-topic to discuss reminiscences... especially
in a "technically oriented" echo! This is why i now share these ~URL~s:
http://fidonet.sensationcontent.com/dos_internet/ (FdN EchoMail Archive,
by Andrew Clarke, 2003) and http://fido.prolidi.cz/ (FdN Reader, created
by Michal Novotny, 2002). This won't address ~FTP~ questions but it may
shead light on what `DOS-INet' was like in the old days. Since it would
be prohibitive to forward messages which are a few years old, i compiled
the names, dates and titles in hope that it could refresh some memories:

N.B.: Well, "14K4 bps with a 8250 UART" by mister Angelich would now be
titled "57K6 bps with a 8250 UART" i guess (ref. `FdN_Tech' echo)
