David, at 16:11 on Feb 02 1996, you wrote to Bill Grimsley...

DD> Bastard!
You called?
DD> We were trying to unload the 14,400 Sportster (Jill bought from

Why? Is something wrong with it then? :)
DD> Jill now has a shiney 28,800 Sportster
Do you want the V.34+ EPROM upgrade ordering details? US$24.95, BTW.
DD> (of course being USR it's probably fucked and won't work at all)
Funny you should mention - I put the original V.FC-only EPROM back into the
Sportie this morning (basically just fucking around, plus I wanted to see
if any of the S registers has changed functions), and when I called you at
V.FC, the modems connected at 14400 V.32bis. Weird (but I'm not too
worried). :)
FWIW, the modem's on-line help screens give far more detail about the S
registers than does the actual manual (note the following)...

For Paul's benefit (assuming that he's capable of understanding words in
excess of one syllable) S54=64 is the important one, and disables the V.25
Call Indicate tones which tend to confuse some older, brain-dead fax
modems.
