While you're correct in that the version of BSD at the time was 4.1, the official version of UNIX at the time (System III) was still controlled by AT&T/Bell Labs. It was soon succeeded by System V which included features from BSD. Thank God the movie didn't make any references to Solaris -- I'm sure the Master Control Program (Larry Ellison) would love free marketing for his product.
