I heard that they get you from both ends. They bite from the
front and sting with the other end.
I've used the Amdro. It's supposed to be something the workers
bring to the queen and it kills her. Then I heard that it makes
her sterile. Either way, it's too slow, and all it seems to do
is make them move the hill 5 feet in a different direction.
Other brands of fire ant killer seem to be just diazanon or
dursban. They also move the hill 5 feet....
I tried the switching of dirt. Didn't notice any difference.
The thing I'm doing now, is spraying the mounds with dursban.
It mostly kills the surface ants, but I stir the mounds up with
a long stick first. Get 'em crawling all around, then soak 'em.
I don't know how well it works in the long run, but it's
satisfying.
There was something in the paper a couple weeks ago, about
a woman who was in critical condition after a bunch of bites.
I think the poison killed her liver. I haven't heard an more.
