Hey, if I needed any convincing, their decision to protest sport fishing
was clear enough. But I already knew that, even long before the snow
monkeys.

The bigger problem is usually deer in the suburbs. Some states have taken
to allowing bowhunting inside various cities to control deer there, but
naturally try not to publicize it much to avoid the anti-hunting wackos.

I recall a Sci-Fi novel by David Brin in which there was a religion of
nature worshippers. They were even a dominant religion, attracting many
followers. When they declared that hunting was a natural act for man, the
animal-rights people parted ways with them. (It was only a minor
sidelight in a story on a somewhat different topic.)
Unfortunately, we humans can take either side to excess, both the
exploiters and the so-called preservationists. When taken to extremes,
any position can be wrong.
