->Most fans of metal seem to have tunnel vision. They tend to think
->that a song must have heavy shredding riffs with "killer" fast
->leads. By the end of the 80s and earlier 90s everything started to
->become generic - same old thing time and time again without any
->major changes.
It's not like the speed metal fans don't have other bands out there to fall
back on, with Metallica evolving.
->Variety (along with
->experimentation) is the spice of life as the saying goes.
Of course. Metallica could've put out another Master of Puppets, but they
are attracting a new breed of fans with Load, as well as keeping some of
their longtime fans who aren't afraid of change.
Load didn't have monster sales.. but I wonder how many people, like my 15
year old brother, after hearing Load went out and bought Master of Puppets
and Justice for all? That doesn't really get calculated into sales, does
it? :)
->Some people call Metallica "sell outs" but I would have to
->disagree. They are simply evolving and changing the definition of
->Metal.
I agree.. changing the definition of Metallica, also. It really bothers me
to hear people saying "Load really sucks" after hearing about all the work
the guys put into it.. and the spice girls and Hanson go unscathed.
->Hetfield was, (I dont know if you know this or not), really into
->country music at the time Load was being conceived. He had to
->write something that reflexed this: Mama Said. Not my favourite
->song in the world, but if you're into country then maybe..
I've heard worse than Mama said. (maybe not from Metallica, but.. :)
And it's about the effort and work and soul and thought they put into this,
and then it gets cast off as "crap".
