Hi!
GC> As of today I have 23 beavers and 21 cubs registered so
GC> I will be kept busy enough with them. The Scouts were
GC> all diverted to other groups in the district and it
GC> looks like they will do well and have fun. Our Troop
GC> would have had only about 6 boys anyways so with our
GC> boys going elsewhere the other troops are now up to 15
GC> and 20 boys. Much easier to run a program with those
GC> numbers.
It sounds like a good deal for the boys. I took a little vacation from
scouting after resigning as Pack 12 Cubmaster. I only went on 1 campout
during the summer (USS Alabama). Troop 88 had a Court of Honor at the last
meeting in August meeting where I was publically told by the Scoutmaster that
he needed me all the time. I had said that I would be available whenever
needed, except as work calls. I've been sick with sinuses (still am, but I
can get around) and the first meeting I made it to was last night. I helped
with compass bearing and lashing exercises. I didn't remember the lashings,
but cheated by using the book. I was bad in trying to figure out what was
wrong - even after I tied the knots correctly alongside the knots that the
boys had tied..... I can't figure out what's wrong with one of our water
storage tanks, either.....
I did a count - 19 boys. A good group. One of the other scouters held a
cooking demonstration on the porch of the Scout Hut - made great chili (I'll
have to get you the recipe).
We have a camporee coming up with orienteering, lashing and cooking contests.
The boys will have a compass course to run this Saturday - the same day the
United Methodist Men's Club I preside over is having a fish fry. .
The Troop is also beginning Christmas wreath sales - would you like to buy
some?
YIS,
Don
