Police officers in Queensland Australia can now question any person in
possession of a knife. If a person cannot satisfy the police that he has
a genuine reason to carry a knife. the officer may disarm the knife
carrier, and also press charges. Up to this time, it has been a custom
for men to carry a folding knife on the belt, in fact, in many parts of
OZ every man would be equipped with some kind of knife. Police say that
they need this power in order to handle the large numbers of younger
people carrying knives, even bayonets and the machete. Few of us are
opposed to police action against trouble makers, but having had our guns
grabbed, we wonder if we will be expected to stop carrying any kind of
knife completely. If you good old boys would like to know what
developes, I can keep you informed. Moderator: I seek your indulgence,
I am hoping that you can relate this matter to RTKBA. 90.F. today.
