LP> Victoria Day weekend (May 19th, this year), but we can still get night
LP> frosts and temps in the low 20's celcius, don't know what that is in F.
LP> If I wait until then, though, I don't get any peas! And I do love peas!
LP> I haven't gotten any into the house the past few years, because I eat
LP> them all in the garden! :)
I have some sugar snap peas that should be blooming any old day
now. I don't grow the regular english peas anymore, too hard to
grow in the heat down here. The sugar snap take heat better.
LP> I love herbs! I've got old roses, thyme, mint, lemon balm, wild
LP> strawberries, cilantro, basils, sage, comfrey, and a bunch more.
Oh you are really into herbs! I keep seeing those old roses,
they are so pretty and haven't had the beautiful fragrance bred
out of them.
LP> Your Bay should grow well in a container.
LP> Unfortunately, I can't give you any tips on growing them. I kill them,
LP> along with rosemary
I noticed today it's showing some signs that it's alive, I can
see some little buds on it. I killed the first couple of
rosemarys I had. Then I read up on them and found out what I was
doing wrong. I had one in a self watering container. We get some
pretty heavy rain down here in the summer. Can get an inch in
just a short time. Rosemary gets root rot pretty quick. Also I
read that it likes rather alkaline soil, so I had a little
dolomite lime each year. I have one in the ground now, and since
my soil is sandy it drains well. I've had this one several years
now and it's really spread out. Also it blooms all the time. I'm
lucky that my climate is mild so it can grow in the ground year
round. I think many people have trouble when they have to bring
it in for the winter. It's hard to harden off plants for the
changes from outdoors to indoor.
