subject: Battery charger.

JP> TW> IF talking individual cells it is the Cell Mah. IF talking about a
JP> TW> series string battery pack it is the MaH of the Lowest rated Single
JP> TW> cell.

JP> I was typing about the 10% or the 5% of the charging for
JP> the whole pack, Tom. This is a slide off type of pack and it can
JP> be recharged three ways, with 12v car current, and two other
JP> "brick" charger. It has the three connectors, I use one for a
JP> power supply 12v charge, the same PS that I use for my 2m
JP> radio. All three will admit a 12v supply but use three different
JP> connectors ??? The main brick is 12v 300mA. Should this be the
JP> governing factor, even for NiMH cells, in serie, 11 of them ?

It is the Rating of the Whole pack then. In this case for NiCADS it
would be 30 MA for the sharging current and 15 Ma for the trickle
charge.
For a NiMH pack the charging currenet would be the same but the Trickle
charge would be 10 to 15 Ma.
The charging if done with a simple current limiting resistor should be
doen using a timer for a 12 to 15 Hour charge for a discharged pack.
I don't recommend timer charging of partialy discharged NiMH battery
packs because of possable problems with cell heating.
Rembembering of course that I was Trained to care for batteries for
MAXIMUM life and Dependable. For real non critical applications soem
abuse can ge tolerated. Except some battery packs are Expensive and it
really makes sense to take care of them.
