He is fundamentally unable to bring himself to admit any of his lies or
errors.  The only thing I cannot decide is whether he actually succeeds in
convincing HIMSELF that he is always right, or whether he is worried that
if he ever starts confessing he will set loose a mass of dammed-up lies and
distortions that he will drown in.
