My male albino cockatiel "threw-up" 2 times today while perched on my finger.
I think he may have also done it once in his cage.
Immediatly I panicked, but later I read (in one of those Cockatiel Manual
type things) that tiels will sometimes regurgitate food (on or towards
objects) to show their mate that he can/will feed their offspring. Does it
make a difference that he puked while I was holding him? It was plain to see
that he regurgitated his pellets, the colour or anything else was not *wierd*
My Cockatiels are almost two-years-old and they have laid eggs three times.
Eggs have hatched 2X, and in both instances, they hissed and picked at the
nestlings (I end up handfeeding from day 1) The last time they abandoned
their eggs when they heard little noises coming from one of the eggs. They
have started mating again, and no doubt eggs will soon appear. The male tiel
has been hanging out in the nest box.
Is this normal in cockatiels/birds? -- the vomitting. Does this mean that the
male may feed his babies?
Other than closing his eyes 1/2 way for a little while B4 and after
throwing-up, my tiel is seems to be A-OK.
This little guy means a heck of a lot to me, so ANY help on the matter will
be *greatly* appreciated!
By the way, does anyone know of a good, reliable avian vet in the Toronto
area? Or even in the surrounding area?
aysha.
