KR> > Could OpenClass be purchased separately and used with > Visual C++ or Watcom C++? Or can it only be used with > IBM's C++ compiler? (that would be C Set++, correct?) KR> IBM's C++ compiler is IBM VisualAge C++ 3.03. You *used* to be able to buy the IOC source code from IBM as separate product, and in fact I believe that you still can. Consult your IBM software catalogue for details. It probably will compile with Watcom C++. It is, after all, designed to be portable. The only trouble would probably be with trivial things such as converting the makefiles and language-extension keywords (such as _Export and so forth) between compilers. Ironically, Watcom C++ is probably the worst choice for the target compiler, since its makefiles and tools work like no other compiler in the world. At least with, say, Borland C++, IMPLIB is still called IMPLIB, and the linker still uses DEF files. With Watcom C++ you have much more work to do. On the other hand, I wouldn't trust Borland's code generator to produce a working library. (-: Maybe someday I'll port IOC to MetaWare High C++, just to see how easy it is to port. KR> > Would IBM's C++ compiler run usably on my limited 8 meg system? KR> If you are compiling C, yes. For C++ work, look to 16Mb at least, otherwise it will thrash like hell. KR> > About how much does IBM's C++ compiler cost? (a student > discounted price would be nice, if available) KR> Ring up your local IBM and ask. Prices do, after all, vary from place to place around the world (this is a worldwide echo, remember). > JdeBP < ___ X MegaMail 2.10 #0: --- Maximus/2 3.01* Origin: DoNoR/2,Woking UK (44-1483-725167) (2:440/4) SEEN-BY: 50/99 78/0 270/101 620/243 711/401 409 410 413 430 808 809 934 955 SEEN-BY: 712/407 515 517 628 713/888 800/1 7877/2809 @PATH: 440/4 141/209 270/101 712/515 711/808 809 934 |
