Hi Greg,
GF> Greg Caught Linda responding to Chris....:
GF> If I understand your question, you are running Max 2.0x and want to have
GF> seperate groups of message areas all numeric in number starting with
".
LH> I hope someone can give me some help. I am running
LH> max 2.02 and please don't tell me to upgrade. I like
 LH> this version.
Cb> Don't smack me for this one.. but the 3.x versions
Cb> solve this completely for you. ( I ran 2.01wb right up
 Cb> untill I switched to 3.x ) I have found no difference
Cb> in operation, or newer memory overhead requirements.
GF> Chris is right, as Max 3.01 allows for message divisions and will do
ust
GF> what you require. While I know you don't want to upgrade, there are
ome
GF> great benefits to upgrading. If you continue with the 2.01 version
ere
GF> are some other options but they will not do what you really want:
GF> 1) Use Keys to define groups (as has already been
 GF> suggested by someone else
 GF> to you).
GF> 2) Use a numbering scheme where say Local message areas are numbered
GF> 1 to 99, Fido 100 to ??? and so on and on...
 GF> 3) Use an alpha-numeric numbering scheme... Local are L1 to L??
GF> FidoNet are F1 to F??? and so on...
GF> As for using seperate Msg.ctl files... that works for keeping things
idy
GF> but makes no difference to Maximus once you compile with the silt
program.
GF> I noticed your reservations were with loosing some options if you
upgraded
GF> to 3.01. The only option that I have noticed loosing
 GF> were the Hotflash Menus.
GF> Other than that, I haven't found any Mecca scripts that
 GF> wouldn't work in the
GF> upgraded Max. Might I suggest testing your system by
 GF> first backing up all
GF> your Max 2.01 files and then upgrade to Max 3.01... try
 GF> it out.. If things
GF> don't work and you can't live without them, restore the
 GF> backup and stay with
GF> version 2.01... Can't hurt to try it... You just
GF> might like the added new
 GF> features....
Thanks. You do make sense and I might consider it. I have the extra ctl
files made but have not had time to work on it further. It is not necessary
to have each file start with #1, just thought it would be neater.
    TTYL
        Linda
