Biases/baggage?  Probably a reflection of my own trials. :) I would
desire a worker clearly willing to do the job. I would even choose
someone who might not actually have all of the skills yet seemed to have
the drive to learn, grow and contribute over another who did possess a
strong experience track and the required skills--and KNEW IT in a
self-important way.
I would be for the earnest "underdog"; people need opportunities to show
what they can do.
