-=> While eating Chocolate, Desiree had this to say: <=-
                  ^^^^^^^^^ (been a stressful week)
DL> Well, Cory is allowed the Sega now *only* if he is co-operating, and
DL> only for one hour. His father has the theory that Cory needs to vent
DL> his hyper- ness through the sega! I only see it as stimulating him
DL> overmuch. This is not what he needs. Which is why I like the Sim City
DL> idea. (We picked up Sim Earth last weekend, have you seen it yet? It's
DL> really neat!) With SC Cory would be forced to slow down, concentrate,
DL> plan... etc. instead of him getting all revved up and being disruptive.
 RF>
RF> Actually, if you see him overstimulated than it is not a good idea to
RF> allow him on it for very long. I haven't seen Sim Earth. What does
I don't... an hour max on good days... bad days when he is getting loud,
etc it could only last maybe 10 minutes.
RF> it do? Most of the games for a Sega or Nintendo are pretty
 RF> destructive.
We have that other one that was in the news, David brought it home, but it
is put away somewhere and David at least has the decency to play it when
Cory is either in bed, in his room or at school.
Sim Earth is pretty neat:
        SIM EARTH... The Living Planet
Take charge of an entire planet from it's birth until its
death-- 10 billion years later. Guide life from its incep-
tion as single-celled microbes to a civilization that can
reach for the stars. Inspired by James Lovelocks' Gaia
Hypothesis, Sim Earth simulates the Earth as a single
                living organism.
You can place lifeforms where you want, land or sea... various levels of
civilization. There are special "terraforming tools"... unleash volcanoes,
tidal waves, earth quakes, meteors and other natural powers. You can take
over existing planets or create new randomly generated worlds.
I just noticed on the CD it says ages 6 to adult... we got it for $15. It's
part of the collector series. If nothing else Cory will excell in certain
parts of science class!
DL> GRIN! I know what you mean. Usually Cory's really good days are
DL> punctuated my *extremely* bad days... and no set pattern to them. If
DL> there was a pattern of some description we could prepare. ;) But then
DL> again if there was one we could probably figure out how to avoid the
 DL> bad days/weeks all together! :\
RF> Yeah, Jeremy just started his stuff again. Come up with the smart
RF> mouth. I asked him why he insisted on talking to me like I was a piece
RF> of *.* He grinned (can you believe that)? Then with his attitude he
Yup... Cory does this too... in one hand it's frustrating, on the other I
wonder with amusement at the audacity of this kid.
RF> says "cause". Now how the heck can he have both at the same time?
RF> Then he comes and gets his dinner like he's my best friend. Some days
RF> I would love to just pop him and get it over with. Sounds awful, but
Contemplated this myself... but Cory's most likely to pop me back! So,
I can't be doing that now.
RF> it happens to be one of those days where I can't read him at all.
Most of the time, if I have been with Cory all day I can read him, but if
it's been just him and his father or just him and David then I make a point
of sitting him down and asking him what has been going on. No pressure. And
he usually tells me. Then I have another mess to sort out! :\
DL> Really? hmmmm... I saw a book in the drugstore last week written by a
DL> doctor about Prozac. I think I'll buy it... doesn't hurt to have more
DL> reference books around... like I *need* more! I'm getting quite the
 DL> library now.
RF> I don't buy any. Just go to the library and then afterwards I don't
RF> have to find a place to store. Maybe you could open one?
 RF> Hehee........
I've been tempted! If nothing else I collect reference books. There's always
something I read that I need to refer back to, (and it's always late at night
when my thought processes have come together... and the kids have gone to
ed)
so buying them really is the best thing for me.
DL> This year we were watching for it. He always starts to worsen just
DL> before Christmas and it builds and builds until about April. I wasn't
DL> sure last year... but since I have SAD then there is a great
DL> possibility that my son does too. :(
 RF>
RF> Is that something that is inherited? I thought it was just a form of
RF> depression that anyone could get.
Could be. I was told it was inherited, but some people may never ever know
if they live in a climate that has very short winters/ lots of sunshine. It
is like an extreme form of cabin fever... the restlessness, irritability,
and so on, but on a lesser scale than SAD.
DL> I live in Burnaby, British Columbia (it's right beside Vancouver).
 RF>
RF> Way on the other side of the states from me.
You still didn't tell me which state you live in! :)
DL> Cory has a psychiatrist appointment on friday. Lots of stuff to bring
DL> up, and figure out. It's not coming fast enough.
RF> Yeah, I know what you mean. Jeremy was up most of the nite again.
RF> He has a horrible time sleeping. Since he is older I don't stay up
RF> with him if he has a sleepless nite. But I can remember when things
I envy you! But I think Cory will always get into things...
RF> were not that easy. I will be taking him this summer to get him
 RF> something for that.
Good luck with that. :)
DL> BTW... we finally have a Chapter of CHADD opening up here in Burnaby.
DL> As it turns out Cory's psychiatrist will be one of the consulting
DL> doctors! (CHADD chapters are all over the lower mainland, that is what
 RF>
RF> Yeah, we had one around here but I never went. I just fill my own
RF> time on the internet, echo areas, support for others who have these
RF> children, and my own (which takes the brunt of all my time.
I like to be insanely busy... I feel better and actually function better
(sound familiar??? ) At least I'm not on the internet too... Ron, Cory's
father takes care of that end for me. But if there isn't any
thing new that I don't know already or can't easily get myself then I
probably won't go regularly. Besides... hahahaha, Cory's doctor is the
consulting doctor!
DL> Thanks. :) I wish his father could see that as clearly as I do.
 RF>
RF> Thats because as soon as a boy asks up its consider the child just
RF> being a boy. And lets face it children act totally different around
RF> mom. We seem to catch it all.
Well, dad told me the other day that he is looking forward to seeing Cory
off meds!!! I'm still laughing!!!!! HE has forgotten what Cory's behavior
is like without medication... I sure the heck haven't. But Cory is 4 years
older now so maybe (PLEASE GOD) there will be some improvements/changes for
the better.
Take care,
Desiree
