But it is just "Cold Wars, the Farm Leagues" this time.

The first cold war was "we will bury you" economic dictators against
free market folks.  The Soviets had a system that looked good on paper
but that did not work.  I've had folks tell me that national socialism
looks at least as good on paper but we all know its results.  But it was
all based on politics, economics and what actually happens.

The second phase is "we will kill or convert you" religious dictators
against freedom of religion folks.  It's deliberately depicted as a
battle of good and evil on both sides when that's not what it's really
about.  Moussilini wanted a new Roman Empire.  Imams want a new
Caliphate.  It's not as different from the "Cold Wars, the Major
Leagues" as the rhetoric suggests.

In Lensmen the bad guys got more sophisticated each step along the way. 
In our history we had a real 20th century power fall then get replaced
by a 7th century one using the Internet.
