Mine's the 9.5 HP Evinrude/Johnson, made from 1964-1973.  I've seen this
low-profile design referred to as the "flying toilet seat."  The top of
cowling is just a few inches above top of transom.  AFAICT the idea is
to cut down on obstruction/interference when fighting a fish.  Opposite
high-profile extreme was some of those old 6-cylinder Mercury engines,
where the cylinders were stacked up vertically on top of one another.

No wrench in hand yet - gathering info on how to do the expected
repairs, like replacing the water pump impeller.  Luckily, most of the
parts which wear out or break are still available.
