That should be OK.  The real problem comes from having Telix's DD speeds
set to rates lower than those at which you expect to connect, as the DD
rate takes precedence over the locked serial port speed.

Very odd.  I'd have expected 38400 to work just fine.  Have you tried any
other V.32terbo-capable modems yet, like David's or Poe's?
