It's pretty obvious that an identical serial number can be generated based
on two completely different messages when using the CRC-32 algorithm.  If
that serial number happens to rear its head twice in three years
(originating from the same system), you're no longer following FTS-9.

The CRC-32 algorithm exists for error-checking purposes, not generating
unique numbers.  Whether or not Joe is convinced of this remains unknown.
