MK> RJT> Somebody sent me a cdrom that had an ".mp3" movie file on it

MK>Do you mean an mpeg? mp3 is a digital audio format isn't it?

MK> RJT> recently, and I was pleased to find that xine, which had been
MK> RJT> installed on my workstation but which I never used, worked right
MK> RJT> off and played it just fine. It was apparent to me the limitations
MK> RJT> of the machine's speed, but that's another issue entirely. :-)

MK>Right. For creation I'd say 800MHz would be the low end although it is
MK>possible to do that with less but not in real time without serious degradati
MK>of the final product. For playing it depends on the frequencies, resolution
MK>etc. Of course the high end quality stuff would require a high speed CPU to
MK>get the most out of any digital format. Same with streaming high quality
MK>audio/visual over a network and there the network interfaces also come into
MK>play.

BUT that is just a somewhat small, but growing nitch market. And by
insisting that ALL need a 2 gig plus CPU with a 200 Gig Hard Drive
and 3 Gig of Memory is just NOT true.

Overatetement to make a poinmt. MOST can gat along with FAr less than
Soem here push as Manditory as a general rule.
