Geno Dellamattia to Gary Chambers (Orig: 16:40, Mon, Sep 16, 1996):
GC>(stationed at NAS Brunswick). This is a spectacular part of the country.

I'm green with envy!! I'm in a sailing mecca, yet I have yet to step foot on
a boat since I've been here. Mecca doesn't stay too long, though. The
winter is hellish (and long)...
GD> pick...). Where's NAS Brunswick? As for spectacular, you should
GD> get up here sometime.... :)
Mid-coastal Maine. We're about 35 minutes north of Portland, and about 2
hours south of Bangor. I *SHALL* get to Canada before I leave here in
December 1999. I don't think I'll be visiting BC anytime soon, though. It's
clear across the continent !! I intend to do Nova Scotia, Newfoundland,
PEI, etc.
GD> We've lost many of the old-timer's over the years. I guess the
GD> Internet hype caught them.
Yeah, I suppose. It's ashame, too. I surf the web, but I'm not obsessed
with it as most of North America (and the world for that matter) appears to
be. It appears FidoNet is hanging-tough.
GD> Who's Ugly Al?
Al Thorley. Last I heard he was living in North Carolina. I suppose I could
look-up his name in the nodelist. I remember talking to him about
land-locked sailing (I was stationed in Dallas, TX at the time).

Is the S2S network still running? I have contemplated joining, but I already
have far too many irons in the fire. SailNet is now dead. I see there's an
internet version of SailNet (sailnet.com), but I haven't visited it.
