Hi Kathy,
-> Oh, I know. Dr. Ritchie hates bird fairs for exactly that reason. I
-> stopped taking my birds about 6 years ago--Michigan had a triple
-> epidemic of Newcastles(!), PBFD and Psittacosis all in one summer. I
-> figured that a few hours of showing off my pets wasn't worth risking
-> their lives. Now if I have babies for sale and I'm doing a show, I
-> put together a photo album, and set up a sign that says "Ask me about
-> my baby conures". I've gotten good responses from this method.
It's a natural inclination to want to show off your birds, but as long
as those horrors are lurking out there, you are right to be cautious.
Maybe there will be vaccines for everything someday and we'll be able to
have bird parties. The photo album is a great idea AND you can
explain why you aren't bringing your healthy babies.
TTYL,
Jan
