{Greetings and Salivatations, All!}
begin
I recently was given a dusty equalizer; an ADC "Sound Shaper" Mek ][.
Naturally, it came without a manual of any kind, and I was hoping someone
could lend me a hand with determining the function of a couple of the
controls.
Everything is straight forward, save for two items: a two-position swtich
marked "Line/Record" and a pair of level controls. In my current setup, the
switch doesn't appear to affect anything; the level controls alter the
response of an LED meter on the face, but nothing else.
FWIW, I'm currently running it between the pre and power amps, and ignoring
the tape monitor and tape output abilities of the equalizer.
Can anyone shed some light? If you're lucky, I may bug you at a later date
about the open-reel tape deck that I was given at the same time. ;)

Don Guy has some questions on an ADC Soundshaper EQ....
-
Hi Don,
The two level controls are only there to do exactly what
they are doing. To increase the level of the LED's. This
would be used to increase the lights in the case that you
are playing a lower signal source. (quieter music signal)
Mainly used if you are "into" light displays.
-
If I remember correctly, the "Line/Record" switch is used if you
are recording a tape, etc. In the "Line" position, the music
signal will pass through the equalizer without being affected.
In the "Record" position, the equalizer slide controls WOULD
affect the sound being recorded onto the tape.
But the way that you currently have the equalizer wired between
your pre-amp and amplifier, this switch would have no affect
in either position.
-
To utilize this switch, you would need to wire the EQ through the
"Tape 2" loop, and leave the Tape 2 switch engaged. Then wire
a tape deck to the "Tape In/Out" on the back of the ADC equalizer.
The equalizer would work just as well this way, with the added
benefit of being able to bypass the EQ entirely, if you would
wish to do so.
PS. Use the "Tape 2" loop from the Pre-amp.
