JF> Have you any suggestions for someone learning the in's and out's of "C" JF> or C++ under OS/2 ? Learning of the two (C and OS/2) at the same time is not realistic, and I wouldn't trust any book that claimed to do so. In fact, I don't think I've ever read a good book that tried to do anything more than teach you the language in a platform indepentant manner. My advice: Don't learn C, go directly to C++. It is true that C++ is a superset of C, but it is NOT true that learning C first is a good stepping stone to nirvana. Exactly the opposite is true. Since C is not based on objects, as C++ is, you will be learning a completely different way of programming. If you must learn C, read "The C Programming Language" by Kernigan & Ritchie (sp) -- the inventors of the C langauge, and good writers. For C++, there is "The C++ Programming Language" by Bjarne Stroustrup (creator of C++), but I do not like his writing style nearly as much as K&R. I'd suggest you get another suggestion . IBM has a multimedia tutorial called "Experience C++"...has anyone tried it? --- Maximus/2 3.00* Origin: Sol 3 * Toronto * V.32 * (905)858-8488 (1:259/414) SEEN-BY: 50/99 270/101 620/243 711/401 409 410 413 430 808 809 934 955 SEEN-BY: 712/407 515 517 628 713/888 800/1 @PATH: 259/414 400 99 250/99 3615/50 396/1 270/101 712/515 711/808 934 |
