subject: WP vs Word

AR> JE> I just loaded Word Perfect Suite 8 on my system. So far, I like 7
AR> JE> much better. It appears to me that many of their "improvements"
AR> JE> are really steps backward. Maybe after I dig into 8 a bit more
AR> JE> I'll change my mind.
AR>Can you give me an impression of the stability of WP8? Occasionally WP7
just
AR>ps doing anything. Mainly after hitting a lot of keys without waing for
scre
AR>pdates I think.
I have had absolutely NO problems of that nature with either 7 or 8. I
would suspect a Windows or possibly a system problem - in view of my
total non problems of that nature - with ANY applications that I use.
AR>Another problem is of course the co-called "converted" files saved by
ord7
AR>P5.1 ... Usually some styles are converted incorrectly. E.g. a Word style
is
AR>verted into a closed WP style -- but the end-code for that style is put in
a
AR>appropriate plce or nowhere at all.
AR>Regrettably I have to live with that. Word7 is the 'official' standard at
th
AR>fice. It's a good thing most of the conversion problems can be solved
easily
AR>wrote a few WP5.1 macro's to eliminate superfluous codes and styles etc.
I have converted all my previous version files with any special feature
useage to 7 when 7 first came out. - (5.1 long long ago) Actually, I did
not use too many macros with 5.1.
AR> JE> I've been using WP since version 4.0, I believe it was.
AR>For me it was the first release of WP5.1 as it offered quite a bit more
func
AR>ality than the Wordstar we were using. Happily we got an update fairly
oon
AR>hat WP5.1 was rather buggy.
Word Star was one of the the numerous word processors I tried out when I
was looking for "my" word processor. Word Star, Professional Write,
IBM's Display Write & its little brother, and a whole raft of others
just didn't seem to hold a candle to Word Perfect 4. I still check some
out every now and then - Word, Lotus Write, etc. Still stay with WP.
Auke, I notice that the right ends of some of your message lines are
being truncated. I would suggest that you set your right margin to 65 of
70 to prevent this. I had to do that to my off line reader editor.
