subject: Need Advise!

After purchasing the RS PRO-2026 (20-148B) and finding
out that I can not mod the scanner and there are no
computer interfaces of any kind I would like to finally
ask for an advice. I have looked at many scanner reviews
and seen that pretty much the dominate scanners are AR8000,
PRO-2006, PRO-2042, BC9000XLT, MVT-7100,7200. There are lots of
computer interfaces for them and most of them can be modified, plus
I guess you can order them from UK already covering the cell
range. I guess I am looking for a good scanner around $500
(try not to go over and possible less :) ) that I can
utilize computer with and build various electronic interfaces.
(DTMF, CTCSS,...) Still don't know the preference of desktop versus
handheld for my purpose. I am mainly leaning towards desktop models
BC9000XLT and PRO-2042 both new models with excelent features.
Can anyone tell me their preference or could recommend something else.
I would also appreciate any general advise that could help me in any
way.
Thank you very much for your time!
