subject: NVRAM question

Hello All!
I have a rather unusual question, My current knowledge of NVRAM says that you
can write to it up to approximately 1000 times. (This is with a USR/3Com) Is
this in fact the same with other brand modems? ie: multitech (OLD 9600 baud)
The reason I am asking, is, at work we have to dial in with this old 9600
baud modem and the init string they force us to use writes to the NVRAM
everytime. I brought this to the attention of level 3 tech support, who
failed to give me an answer. We are experiencing major technical
difficulties, and I suspect NVRAM problems. FWIW, we get connected (Sometimes
after 10-15 tries) then it starts all over again. My insistance of getting
into the 90's with a 33.6k or a 56k GOOD USR modem ends in arguments
that "we (They) cannot bump up our modem pool faster then 9600 baud."
Does ANYONE have actual technical knowledge of Multitech modems and/or NVRAM
so that I may be armed with precise technical information to slam-dunk these
people?
Thanks,
           Terry
