Since we are talking about Delphi, yes you can mention VB here :)
The answer to your question is essentially yes. The difference is, you
have the choice to create TRUE stand alone executables or use packages.
When you use packages, you set the compiler option to compile with
packages, your app will be much smaller than a stand alone and then you
simply make sure to ship or install the required packages on the system
the app will be running on. For the average utility or application, I
wouldn't recommend it, but for internet / network apps that are being
updated regularly, or in a corporate environment where there are many
users or updates that need to ship often, it allows the the developer to
ship the packages once and then only the updated "Thin" executable after
that...It can also save memory on a system that has many Delphi
applications running since only one copy of the VCL/Libraries is in
memory. This was one of the few advantages VB had over Delphi, and it is
gone with Delphi 3!
