EH> Obama Does a Clinton: Plans to Close Guantanamo

Now that's a high opinion of Clinton.

 EH> By j alfieri

EH> President Elect Barack Obama has made his first moves in
EH> the war on terrorism, and they aren't good ones. But they
EH> are in line with his foreign policy actions to date:

EH> creating a rift with allies (Poland)

 EH> while pleasing enemies (Iran),

Would like to know how Iran is an enemy, yet Saudi Arabia is
 not.

EH> and all this before he's even placed his hand on
EH> the Bible to take the oath of office. In what can best be
EH> described as continuing the failed policies of the past
EH> -those of President Clinton -

And yet, Clinton was a vastly more successful president that
 Bush has been.

EH> news leaked out on Monday
EH> that Obama's advisers are working on a plan to close the
EH> Guantanamo Bay detention camp and bring the prisoners to
EH> the United States to stand trial.

Bout damn time. Put an end to the shame Bush and the right have
 brought on this country.

 EH> To further complicate
EH> matters, Obama is proposing the creation of an entirely new
EH> court system to handle the trials.

Obama's advisors are *DISCUSSING* an alternative legal system to
handle it. However, Bush has already created an entirely new
court system to handle the trials.

 EH> No humility here, the
EH> One apparently sees that the laws and institutions that
EH> have protected the United States from all threats domestic
EH> and foreign for 219 years are inadequate.

 Bush thought so.

 EH> The notion cooked
EH> up by the left and applauded by international terrorists
EH> everywhere that enemy combatants captured on a field of
EH> battle while attempting to kill American troops are somehow
EH> entitled to a criminal trial is as ludicrous as telling
EH> your enemy when you're going to leave the field of battle.

You just described the treatment of German and Japanese POWs in
WW2. And POWs in every war. Absent the trials, that is. Those
were only for the POWs who committed crimes in the process.

EH> Both are principles that Obama holds dear to. So there is
EH> little surprise here that he has chosen the course that
 EH> served Clinton so well.

Are you referring to the course that actually worked? As opposed
 to Bush's failed policies?

EH> Let's take a look at how well that strategy worked out. On
EH> February 26, 1993, fifteen hundred pounds of explosives
EH> exploded in the basement parking garage of Tower One of the
EH> World Trade Center in New York City, killing six and

 ...

EH> action: a team of lawyers and FBI agents were dispatched,
EH> while the President remained in the Oval Office and decided
EH> not to seek a military response. And within a matter of

Since there was no one known to seek a military resonse against,
 that sounds reasonable.

EH> years, six were convicted of the attack. Finding this

Yes, a strategy that kept us safe from further foreign terrorist
attacks inside the US until Bush abandoned any attempt to fight
 terrorism.

EH> strategy successful, Clinton responded to the attack on the
EH> Khobar towers with another strike team of lawyers and FBI

He did fail to punish those who kept the terrorists from us, the
Saudi Govt. Who executed them without giving us a chance to try
 them.

EH> agents. Al-Qaeda was so impressed by this move, that they
EH> blew up American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998,
EH> killing 245 and injuring 6,000. Apparently no lawyers were
EH> available to respond to these latest attacks, so Clinton
EH> decided to bomb a Sudanese aspirin factory instead. Clearly

That and aprox 70 cruise missiles, that destroyed a terrorist
training camp in Afghanistan, killed a fair number of terrorist
trainees, and a number of Pakistani Intel agents training the
terrorists, and almost got Bin Laden.

Your stupid lying bastard friend there forgot that little detail.

EH> shaken by this, al-Qaeda could do nothing, but attack an
EH> American Naval vessel, the USS Cole, and kill seventeen
EH> sailors. No lawyers were available for comment.

Ah, yes, where they attacked late in Clinton's term, so he had
his counterterrorism people develop a plan of retaliation, which
he handed over to Bush, who chose to treat that outrage as a
 minor nuisance.

Which so inspired Bin Laden he had his followers make another
attempt at the WTC. This time successfully, even though Bush was
 warned ahead of time.

Apparently he decided Bush was a push over. He almost had to
change his mind, after the invasion of Afghanistan, but when
Bush backed off and let Bin Laden start rebuilding his operation
he realized Bush truly is stupid. And corrupt, since Bush
decided oil is more important that America's security.

EH> In homage to this powerful and effective means of dealing
EH> with terrorists everywhere, Barack Hussein Obama apparently
EH> has decided to reinstate this policy. According to an AP

This policy of attacking and killing terrorists? Good idea.

EH> story, some of the prisoners would be brought to the US for
EH> trial, while others would be released to the countries
EH> where they were captured for trial or "rehabilitation", or

 Bout time.
 ...
EH> have all the benefits of due process, including the right
EH> to confront witnesses. Imagine trying to issue a subpoena

Which they also have in the current military court system,
though the military is doing their best to make it not work.

 ...

EH> right to examine the prosecution's case materials,
EH> including intelligence files and other classified material.

Isn't allowed now, when dealing with such cases.

EH> Now there's a scenario to thrill the heart of leftists
EH> everywhere: if the prosecution manages to open the files,
EH> it weakens the intelligence agencies, if it decides not to,
 EH> case dismissed.

Sounds like what the right really loves. Another excuse for
their failure to win the war.

EH> Is there anyone that sees this going well for the home
EH> team? Anyone? But never you mind, dear readers, after all,
EH> this is the change America voted for.

This will be a big improvement. Esp when they discover just how
badly Bush has screwed it up.

Actually, your right wing friend there is both a coward, and a
 fool.
