| subject: | Hiding in the Shadows v2.00 glitches |
After I released the Hiding in the Shadows v2.00 igm last month, I learned of two
problems with the igm. One has been reliably fixed, and the second one is being
worked on.
In shadcfg.exe, in v2.00, the little check marks beside config options don't match up
with the actual command shown on each line. E.g., if check mark is besides Config,
the program may run Install when you hit enter key. Solution is to ignore the check
marks, and always type the menu code for the command you want to run.
Solution 2 is to get the latest shadcfg.exe from me by email -
ktidmore{at}bellsouth.net,
and use it.
The other problem is more serious, and so far is not completely taken care of. in
local mode play, the igm behaves properly all the time. But in bbs remote mode play,
after the "Welcome traveler" screen, bbs players are unable to
see anything else
happen. A bbs sysop named Stephen Gibbs spotted the problem and he's
working on a solution for me now. I had written the majority of the code
using Lwrite/LWriteLn
commands from Turgeon's House igm code. Those work fine in local mode, but
in HITS igm, they apparently don't send any data to the com port. So the
igm just stops working for people.
At this time, I do not have a stable beta of the igm that does not have this problem,
so if you are running the igm and have noticed the problem, the only solution for
now is to take the igm out of usage. I'll let people know when the igm is fully
usable again, either in beta status, or in its next official release.
Work on the new igm, Kiteria's Lord bank is slow. Am trying to work out glitches
where it loses track of the previous visit by a player including knowledge
of how much gold they left in the bank.
IF anyone else has any Lord news, please remember to send it to me in
email, ktidmore{at}bellsouth.net, for inclusion in the Lord IGM Authors
Newsletter. Thanks, Donald.
