ZHi Rick:
When you save from WordPerfect, it should preserve tabs (replaced with
spaces,) and hard returns. It will also put a return at the end of each
line, which is part of the definition of an ASCII file.
It could be that your problem is at the other end. That is, if you save a
WordPerfect file as ASCII, then import it back into WordPerfect to look at
it. I believ WP uses 80 character lines when saving, and your margins are
probably smaller in WordPerfect, so when you bring the file back in, lines
are wrapped, and then you get to a hard return, and go down, causing the
short lines.
Examine the files with the type command, or with a file viewer besides
wordPerfect to check this, the ASCII files that is.
