BG> Of course, it completely slipped my mind that US gun laws are BG> state-based, and vary quite markedly. For example, I have a BG> friend in Florida, where it is (or was) perfectly legal to BG> carry a handgun, provided that it is NOT concealed (in an BG> external holster perhaps?). Same with that town in Texas (?) BG> where almost everybody owns or carries guns, and they have the BG> lowest crime rate in the entire mainland US (can't imagine BG> why). :) Nobody can ever recall the actual name of that town in Texas (can't imagine why). :0 BG> Would you advocate the banning of cars, just because 2,000 BG> people die in road accidents each year? The reality is that BG> accidents will always happen (but decent education should BG> reduce them somewhat). Banning cars is a matter of cost/benefit analysis, and consent. The reality is that all of us use cars and accept the risk, while none of us are willing to accept the risk of the other 5% going armed with SLRs. If you don't use a car you are in no risk, you consent, but if a loony comes at you with a gun it's too late to consent. Being armed only makes sense if you are... and they aren't. Gun nuts should be grateful they are being allowed to keep their pistols, sporting rifles, shotguns, target weapons and antiques.
