Well actually I've got most of them figured out now. Originally I couldn't
get any scripts to run, did some digging and found out it was the "-S"
parameter on the 'extproc' command line starting most of the sample scripts
I have. Seeing none of them were actually on the 'path' even if I gave the
fully qualified name when executing a script it wouldn't run because it'd
look at the 'path' for it. So now I just either put them on the 'path' or
remove the '-S' and just use 'extproc perl5 -x' , anyway I can run most of them now. The other
problems I have basically deal with 'perl' itself as I don't know the
language, I grabbed a book and I'm attempting to pick it up , I've also
found some neat stuff down at the University of Florida website, they seem
to have a lot of perl related stuff there and it's helped.
My main goal right now is just to get comfortable with it and be able to
modify (if necessary) the existing scripts available out there for use with
my web server (OS/2 Apache) in CGI applications since theres so many of them
out there I didn't see any sense in re-inventing the wheel myself . What
I can't do with perl I'll just make REXX scripts as needed.
Once I get my Linux box set back up again, I'll use perl a bit more then
as it appears it has lots of power and potential. Then I can get rid of most
of the EMX/GNU OS/2 stuff, while it's nice to be able to run 'bash', 'sh',
and all the other neat *nix type stuff under OS/2 it just isn't quite the
same or as bug free (especially for a *nix novice ).
Anyway, thanks for the reply and as I have questions in the future I'll
be back.
