1237c9fbae3e tech Hello David - DD>>>> Slackware Linux used to have an option for TCP/IP DD>>>> networking over a parallel port link. CA>> Although I am attempting to master all versions of Windows CA>> with the help of most of the participants of the W95 and CA>> Windows echos I have had time to considered Linux as a CA>> useful alternative. CA>> One of the authors of a mini-install Linux mentions using CA>> PLIP or SLIP to inter-connect machines. DD> PLIP - parallel line interface protocol (?) was the one I DD> was thinking of. SLIP is a serial thing. You are correct. CA>> I was recently reminded of that fact. My only reservation CA>> has been that these two continue to be offered in newer CA>> distributions. It seems that they are but I can't say from CA>> first hand knowledge having no newer Linux CDs on hand to CA>> search for them. DD> Apparrently PLIP is still offered with Slackware 8.1 Those who build intranets within their homes are happy campers when it works. At that time it is "the only way to go". When it won't work or stops working they suddenly realize what a pita it can be trying to find out why it won't work. Seems to happen frequently even though most would deny it. I think PLIP and SLIP are there for those times when the 'lesser gurus' can't get a NIC installed or they "lose the network" and can't figure out how to get it back again. ;-) I've seen the book required to study for CNA rating. It looks like an unabridged dictionary and I'd wager few, if any, have ever actually read all of it. Was quite expensive too if I remember correctly. > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ ___ * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ...
