A user called a mysterious problem to my attention. Max hangs when they
attempt to upload. I'm not sure whether the problem is with Max, X00, or the
modem. Details:
Node 1 is the bbs & mail machine (386/USR Sport 28.8). Node 3 (286/Motorola
Modemsurfer 28.8, recently replaced under warranty) is networked to node 1
with Lantastic 6.0. Both run X00, the mail machine runs Bink, and node 1
runs in WFC mode. Uploads to node 1 hang; aborting the upload will
eventually return the caller to a menu, but it then will not register
commands; it does however detect loss of carrier & cycle back to WFC.
Occasionally when it does that it stops answering when RING occurs. Uploads
to node 1 work if the caller is *not* using error correction. Speed,
protocol, lock speed, and X00 settings don't seem to make any difference, nor
does resetting the modem to factory settings. Downloads, uploads to node 3,
& other bbs activity function normally.
Both nodes are running from the same copies of Max & X00, with the same
settings, which would seem to rule out corrupt files.
If I run a comm program (Qmodem) on node 1 with the same init string (ATZ),
it will accept uploads just fine, so the hardware seems ok.
Any ideas?
