Changed the subject line to Lord 4.07 - WinXP usage. This probably applies
as well to Win-2000 and Win-NT. Anyway, I found out several months ago
that Win-XP does NOT allow direct usage of start.bat. START is a reserved
O.S. command so it does not allow direct execution of a start.bat file for
any reason.
What you have to do is this. Create a batch file for EACH node you use in LORD.
Examples: you play local mode, so you'll need a Start-0.bat file. If you
use Node 1, you have to run it using a Start-1.bat file, and so on. Inside
the new batch files, all you basically need is the following lines.

{at}echo off
c: cd
c:\internet\lord CLS
  CALL
START.BAT 0

   >start.bat to match the node number>

This is not necessary on Win95, Win98, or Win-ME. Just another of the
little gotchas that Micro$oft sticks us with when we use a
"modern" O.S. of theirs. Hope that helps.

Write to Preslar directly at mpreslar{at}mailcity.com and ask him to send you
the beta. He should respond fairly soon. Remember the e_maus account is a
robot app, and it might not be working at times.

BTW, remember that Preslar does not authorize anyone to distribute versions
of LORD, either official ones or beta compiles, besides himself. So be
careful if you are posting betalord.zip for example on your bbs system.
Not sure on details, but it may be a legal contract stipulation by
Metropolis Gameport that only Preslar can legally send betalord.zip to
people.

If the mailcity.com email does not work, I think you can also still use
mike{at}lordlegacy.com to reach Preslar. Good luck on getting rid of your
problem, if my advice on start-x.bat files does not work for you. But
since you are using WIndows XP, it most likely will work.

Just wish I could find a solution for DOS screens under WIndows XP only
letting you see about 70 spaces of a screen line. Everything else you have
to move the screen window with the mouse back and forth to see stuff that
falls off the left or right side. Very annoying. Donald.
