Hello there Rod ....
BG>> What about Ebola though, isn't that near 100% fatal as well?
RS> Yeah, its one of the most virulent but its still not 100% And
There is I think, 5 different strains of Ebola, that is lethal to humans
as well as 2 others that affect monkeys only. The two worst strains are
Ebola Zaire and another named after a nurse that contracted it and died.
(can't remember her name). These are about 92%, and 96% respectively.
Bearing in mind that these are blood transmitted and have an extremely
short death cycle (around 5 days), then there is no great threat to
mankind through this virus. The monkey strains that fronted up in
America via the Phillipines are a worry tho' They proved that the strain
is airborne and if it does jump species then all hell will break loose.
The men working in these monkey houses, that contacted Ebola, and lived,
still show that the virus is in their bodies. This, strain,
theoretically, has the wherewithal to cause massive death rates if
indeed it does mutate to cross to humans.
RS> a LOT less than 100% get infected when its around too.
Really strange, the doctor that worked in Africa in a hut that had
upwards of 20 Ebola victims (all died) had actually cut himself and
handled blood and was of the opinion that he was doomed. Didn't catch
the virus at all.
RS>> That does not mean that you necessarily get the population
RS>> immune to the virus forever after tho. Like I say, it depends on
RS>> what causes the survivors to survive.
And virii have the common trait of mutating to enable survival.
