sounds rather similar to what i wrote, mcarthur went further than his
mandate from the un, got china involved, caused several thousand allied
casualties, and was sent packing.

not quite, the chinese + the n koreans nearly drove the un out, the un
fought back up to the 49th parallel. there then were several months
(years?) of talks leading to an armistice which is still in force today.
