In geo wells the object is not to heat the groundwater but rather produce a
constant temperature of the water flowing through a closed loop. The under
ground temp is always a constant 53-55 degrees. The old type system that you
may be describing is called a pump and dump, it requires a pump well that
draws water through your system and then returns the water to a dump well.
I personally am not to keen on that idea, since I belive it will eventully
raise the temp of the stream you are dumping into. The closed loop system
does not even require you to have any water in the well, rather just uses the
constant temp.
