This is a simple homework question. You want to read the beginning of a
book on compiler construction, like the dragon books from sethi/aho/ullman,
or wirth's "compilerbau" (I have the german edition).

You might also be interested in the lexer and scanner generating tools
(f)lex and yacc or bison, of which OS/2 ports are available.
