JT> JP> gun. Sorry to hear the rest of you aren't
JT> JP> up to Jay's standards.
JT> I, too, am a firearms intructor, avid reloader and

 JD> Jeff,
JD> This weekend I had a scary conversation with a local LEO. He told me
that
JD> his dept only alloted 240 rounds per year for training and
qualification.
JD> Now, I'm a poor boy, but I still can usually manage a box a month just
to
JD> stay in the hunt. I've got a sick feeling that we are
 JD> creating more victims
JD> by failing to provide adequate training for our LEOs.
 JD> 240 rounds a year!!!
 JD> That's awful.
We provide a bit more shooting then that, but not a "lot" more.
The powers that be, in some larger depts, see shooting/practicing as a
somewhat waste of time. IE, odds are the officer will NEVER use his gun on
the job. So they focus more on issues that are likely to get them sued.
Some recent classes I've seen offered:
First responder
Hazardous materials
I can't think of the name of it, but it's basically, how to be ethnically
aware.
Laws of search and seizure,
laws of arrest.
Report writing.
Pressure point and tactics
There are some, but rare, firearms _training_
Yeah, you can qualify 4 times a year, but what the folks need is
firearms training, not just qualifying.
We have a night shoot coming up in august. :)
later
