Hello Wayne -

WC> Well here I am downloading Dragon Linux Lite on a 28,800
WC> modem ;-) A mere 6 hour download ;-)

Would be about 3 1/2 hours here I suspect (at 56k with a 44k
connect).

WC> I really don't like the idea of running it on the same
WC> partition with Windows but with all the unfamiliar hidden
WC> files that may remain unmoveable and unobserved to towards
WC> the end of the drive I'm afraid to run FIPS v.2.0

I have had good results using BooitNG's software to add a
second partition and alter sizes of my W2K setup. No problems
and it's been many months ago now.

WC> I did find the two additional .dat files in addition to the
WC> registry.

Matt tells me there are ".CAB" files stored that are hidden
also (5 of them?) that should be backed up.

WC> Should be amusing to play with Dragon until the other
WC> machine is up and running to where I reinstall a cut down
WC> version of Slackware 8.1 on the other machine adding
WC> moduals until it's more functional.

Dragon is compatible with most SlackWare v7.1 according to it's
creator and if he is honest enough to admit to developing his
'package' on a 266mhz machine I suspect he is not given to
hyperbole. ;-)

WC> I've decided to buy a hardware modem in two weeks then see
WC> about switching ISP's. The multitasking of 98 has only made
WC> me lust more for a full blown Linux install. Still and all
WC> 98 has been running rock solid here.

I think a W98 or better yet W98SE install can be quite solid if
you are careful about what third party apps you addon to it.
Microsoft tried to make this point recently but unfortunately
the appearnce of MSBLAST overshadowed the statements being made
and it became a circus (of course). :-\

Here, I have found that certain third party apps get along with
Windows but not each other. If one is loaded the other acts
flakey and vice versa. When I leave the machine (it's on 24/7)
I close suspect apps and often just close everything. Seems to
help here I can keep W2K on without a reboot for months that
way. :-)
