RW> some of the bill. Now who is helping me pay the bill when my kid
RW> splits the back of his scape when he falls of the bed?
RB> I would imagine that the insurance you have at your job pays
Yes and
RB> for. So, in effect, you expect someone to pay for it, too.
No. I pay for it. If the premiums paid didn't cover
the cost and then some for the company wouldn't stay in
business long. If you took the amount of money I have
spent on insurance and subtract the amount the company
has spent on me I'd be in the hole. To me insurance is
just an account I pay into to cover medical cost. If I
need more money then is in my account the company loans
it to me and I pay it back a little at a time. I ask
no one to pay my way.
RB> Thankfully for you, you have a job where you get insurance
RB> benefits.
why? I have to pay for it, it isn't given to me. When
you take in to account the amount that the company pays
the insurance company that would otherwise go into my
pocket it I'm paying.
RB> Explain this to me: currently, in the United States, there
RB> are NOT enough good-paying jobs for people to hold. There
RB> is NOT enough insurance for everyone
Really? What do you expect for someone to start out
making $20 bucks an hour? Would you hire someone off
the street with no experience and pay them top money?
Or would you start them out low and increase their pay
as they became experienced?
Tell me this how did the wife and I survive when she
was still in college? I started work in a minimum wage
job and she wasn't working at all. No insurance and
defiantly not a good paying job. I'll tell you how we
survived she spent all her time in school or studying
and I worked 5-10 hrs a day 7 days a week. In a few
months I had received two raises and could afford to
take one or two days a MONTH off.
In a couple of more months of working my a$$ off and
bugging everyone I could find about it I made it into
the management program. In less then 18 months I went
from picking up butts on the parking lot to managing
the graveyard shift.
Now all this time I was paying for our own insurance;
life, health, auto and renters insurance. We were also
putting $50 a month into a mutual fund.
How did we do this? By me working hard enough to get
noticed (if they needed someone to fill in I'd ALWAYS
go in and such), by my wife working hard to get through
school as soon as possible and by living within our
means. No cable TV, one car and a motorcycle (both of
which had to be babied to keep running), wood heat,
etc.
So don't talk to me about not being able to make it
with a law paying job.
RB> to have it. There is NOT enough wealth to go around for
Wealth is not a finite thing. If it was the standard
of living would never go up because the average would
always be the same. Go out and get a couple of Econ
books and spend a couple of weeks studying how it
works.
RB> everyone. So, how can you tell someone it is THEIR fault
RB> for not having those things?
Because they are not willing to do what it takes to get
out of the hole. I've seen people living off of me,
and everyone else who works, that have all kinds of
what I would consider luxury items; cable TV, cell
phones, two TVs, etc. I grew up poor and my parents
grew up even poorer but now because of hard work we are
all comfortable and I plan on my kids to be even better
off.
RB> Its like if we were all sitting in a circle and there are 20
RB> of us. There are forty marbles to go around to all of us.
No its like we all have a fruit tree. If you work hard
you get more fruit to eat then those who sit on their
rumps. If you work really hard you might even have
enough to SELL to someone else. Or you could sacrifice
some and not eat all of your fruit and use what you
don't eat to grow more trees.
RB> In order not to lose, you need at least two marbles in your
RB> hand. But 5 of the people start out the game with 3 marbles
RB> each in their hand, and the more marbles you have, the less
If it work this way then we would still be living in
huts and facing death from an infected scratch.
RB> Sound like a fun game? Yeah, if you're one of the ones with
RB> 3 marbles.
And how many marbles did Bill Gates start out with?
Better yet how about the guy who started Intel? He
arrived in the US almost penniless now he's richer then
I can even comprehend. Then there is Michael Jordan,
Madonna, and a dozen or more players in MLB that came
from Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Haiti. All of
them started out with a fist full of your marbles
didn't they?
