OK, the most with which I'll agree at the moment is that it is indeed
quirky behviour, but until such time as Joe F from USR had categorically
stated one way or the other whether or not this is normal behaviour, I
remain unconviced.

BG> Given that the USR is not buggy, I doubt you could call it either. :)

db> Yeah .. the USR is not buggy, and you've never had a need to upgrade your
db> EPROMs for anything other than additional new features (like 33.6Kbps). :)

The first Sportster EPROM upgrade was specifically to add V.34 (mine was
originally a V.FC-only Sportster). The second was indeed a bugfix,
although I never personally saw the problem which it was meant to cure, and
the third and final EPROM upgrade merely adds V.34+ (33600 speeds). All
Sportster EPROMs function the same way WRT port speeds though, and I can't
believe that a company which releases so many EPROM and flash-ROM updates
has missed a fault as glaringly obvious as that about which Paul is
complaining. Ergo, I'll await the definitive answer before I comment
further. :)

BG> Perhaps, but by the same token, how many people need to change their DTE

db> You're missing the point, Bill - it's not that people necessarily *need* or

Unless there is (or once was) a specific reason for it (although I can't
immediately think of any).

BG> I've had USRs almost exclusively for a few years now, and it's never

db> As we've agreed before, no device is perfect and some people will have more

Dunno, my only problem with OS/2 is the absolute dearth of decent native
software for it (and at halfway reasonable prices too).

db> Doesn't mean OS/2 doesn't have bugs. Same for USR.

We'll see... :)
