Well check the BIOS setup on the machine your having problems with.  Maybe 
the shadow bios is turned on.  With some BIOs you can turn on areas like to 
shadow you hard disk bios you can  turn on c800-cfffh or any section from 
a000 to ffffh on.  But then there is my OLD micronics 386 it resevres all 
its upper ram for its self:-(
