*** Quoting Christopher di Armani from a message to Louis Rizzuto ***
CdA> I had/have the same problem Louis. You're not alone in this feeling

CdA> "culture shock" of it all. The surface stuff is all really simple,
CdA> it's the stuff "under the hood" that takes a while to get a handle
CdA> on. At least this has been my experience. I've been working with
CdA> Delphi for about a year and a half now.
Wow. I am impressed that you put up with it so long.
LR> Long term familarity.
CdA> Exactly. The longer I'm working with it the more of it makes sense.
I am 'older' perhaps than you - I am not sure I can take that much time to
convert my DOS apps - which is still not done after 12 years and about 8
man-years of effort - to a Delphi apps. See my msg to Don Krauss.
CdA> There-in lies the problem. I find I do alot of looking things up in
CdA> the Win API so I understand what these guys are talking about.
LR> Anyway suffice it to say it has not been a picnic. It is getting

LR> examples that I still have tons of questions about. Then again I
LR> haver only had Delphi 2.0 for about a month.
CdA> Give yourself a break and understand that it will take a while. :)
I have. See my reply to Don Kraus. I went back to my TP 6.0. It makes more
sense. I am looking into Java - that makes more sense to me than my Delphi
experience.
I do want to thank you for sharing your experience with me. That is very
generous of you. I was going a bit batty over here - especially thinking I
had turned stupid or something. In the last 25 years or so, I do not think
anything has had this negative effect upom me. I have a long track record of
picking up new compilers in a few days. I picked up 'C' in a few days and
was doing graphics in it in a week - had it working under UNIX and VAX/VMS -
a piece of cake for me. This Delphi think is quite complicated and I am not
pursuaded it is worth doing just to create a Windows apps.
Now given this level complexity - if Java is this complex - in return for
being able to write a apps once and run it anywhere - um, appeals to me. :)
