True -- being they ARE Carnivores! :)
I found out something interesting, looking at the labels on cat food --
canned cat food(most people assume it's "meatier" is running less than
18% protein, sometimes FAR less! (the bulk of the ingredients is taken
up by WATER!!) and dry cat food typically is 35% or more protein
(usually from ground up fish/cattle entrails & discarded product of
such.)
Being that cats naturally need a high protein diet, I have made it a
point, ever since, to give my cat ONLY dry cat food! :) (I start them
off with it as soon as I get them (typically at 6-8 weeks of age), with
clean water on the side, and my cats have always been in great health --
never overweight, never skinny, always active and healthy! :)
Sure, cats seem to just LOVE canned food and go ape over it, to the
point that if you give it to them JUST ONCE, you can't ever run the
electric can opener in peace ever again! :P
Even if it WAS wonderfully flavourful & meaty food, would mere FOOD
cause such a drastic reaction in cats(in general)? This appears, to me,
more the reaction to hardcore addictive DRUGS!!!
An example: I give my cat Pounce treats on occasion -- she
absolutely LOVES them, but her response is quite normal for just having
a normal & natural taste preference/enjoyment -- I find Pounce are good
for training a cat to come to their name (call them by name, and use the
Pounce as incentive. . . )
But my theory on the canned food is there's something in there that acts
on a cat's central nervous system to provide heroin-like addiction on
the first eating of it!
Or even if not that strong, just the lack of protein content(key to a
cat's diet!) puts it more in the category of CHOCOLATE as a whole meal
-- sure, your kid(s) would clamour for chocolate bars for lunch, supper,
and/or breakfast, but of what value is such?
Fine as an occasional TREAT, but NOT good for a meal replacement! :P
I don't even give my cat the least bit of canned food any more (my
previous one, I might make a small(4 oz) can last a few weeks, with a
half-teaspoon each day or two, as a treat) but now I believe there's
something more than simple food product in there! :P
I feed my cat the No-Name(blue label) 'brand' of dry cat food, and
Punkin is the happiest & healthiest little Torby you ever did see! :)
