Another example of social activism replacing the truth of the Gospel
... That is one of the most misquoted & misinterpreted Scriptures
bantered around today. To apply it to immigration requires a real
stretch of the imagination -- and abandoning the social & cultural
context in which it was spoken by Rav Shaul (Paul the Apostle).
The quote from Galatians applies to a theocracy -- which has NEVER
been the case for the United States. It describes the state of the
true Believers, with all their different backgrounds, & how they are
made one in Messiah. It is NOT about some feel good philosophy so we
can have an international warm fuzzy moment with everybody and their
cousin -- it only applies to the Believers, and no one else.
I'm a real stickler for getting things right -- especially where the
Scriptures are concerned. I don't like to see people try and make
the Scriptures say what they want it to say -- too many people treat
the Word of God as some sort of "smorgie" where they can pick and
choose what to believe and fabricate their own meanings for things.
Misintepretations and "faith" founded upon those fabrications has
led to wars, crusades, and inquisitions. If people would just relax
& quit doing gymnastics with the Bible, we would have a much better
world. There is a profound simplicity to the message of the Bible --
one which could truly touch lives if folks would just give it half a
chance... and if people would stop looking for rallying points for
their social agendas in there ... such as PETA's nonsense or ideas
about immigration or what-have-you...
Bottom line: religion is off-topic for this echo -- but if someone
is going to claim a Scriptural imperative for some issue we discuss
here, they better be prepared for ME to set the record straight if
it is any kind of stretch or deviancy from the pure teaching of the
Word -- keep it contextual, socially & culturally, and we'll do fine!
