-=> Quoting Ed Grinnell to Stephen Frazier <=-
EG> Stephen was hit by a Randy Johnson fastball for uttering:
SF> Where did you get this info? I hadn't heard that, and personally, I
SF> don't think it will happen. TBS is cash cow for whoever owns it and will
SF> stand to lose too much money if they lose superstation status.
EG> I got this straight from the horse's mouth. Look, just because YOU
EG> didn't hear it doesn't mean that it's true. WTBS is under the
EG> Time-Warner umbrella and Time-Warner, NOT Ted Turner, made this
EG> decision.
I don't have a problem with you having info that I don't, I just thought that
you wouldn't mind identifying this "horse" which gave you the info. Is it a
"confidential source"?
SF> The Braves are already going to have to pay big bucks to the revenue
SF> sharing, and to lose millions and millions more to this...It ain't
SF> gonna happen. If it does, then we know why Ted Turner keeps hiring
SF> idiots for his front office.
EG> 1. The Braves will get their $$$ from the organization, whether they
EG> play on WTBS or not.
THat makes no business sense. The Braves will be run as a separate profit
center, ad will have to suppor titself. No horse told me that, it's just
horse
sense.
EG> 2. They will lose NOTHING. WTBS won't be hurting because they have
EG> enough in their film vault to more than compensate for the loss of the
EG> Braves. The only ones who lose are the Braves' fans.
You sound like you don't know how this thing really works. Next, you'll be
telling me that TW will soon SELL the team in order to buy MTV or something.
EG> 3. Ted Turner has less of a say these days. People think that he's
EG> still the owner of the Hawks but his stake is a minority stake (If you
EG> look at the Hawks' structure, you'll see the Turner is only a board
EG> member and that J. Michael Gearon is the Chairman and NOT Turner).
Turner is not a major exec in ANY of his teams. He is the boss at Turner
broadcasting (even though he reports to Time-Warner), and all his sports
teams
have chairmen and/or presidents other than Turner. Turner never did
personally
own the Hawks, Flames or Braves, TBS did.
EG> While he's still top dog in the Braves' organization, he is less of a
EG> force in the alliance created when Time-Warner and Turner merged.
THat's old news.
EG> As for the crack about the idiots in the front office -- you're so far
EG> off that it's not funny. If it wasn't for those *idiots*, Atlanta
EG> would still be the bush league organization that they turned into in
EG> the mid-80s.
With the way they are running the organization from the front office, they
seem pretty bush league to me anyway.
